Honors

  • In 2023 Anna Frajlich received a Diploma from Encounter (The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize) for being a finalist with the book “My Father’s Name,” translated into Ukrainian by Vasyl Makhno.
  • In May 2022 she received a literary medal from Wschodnia Fundacja Kultury Akcent in Lublin, Poland, “to an outstanding poet and humanist in recognition of her impressive creativity on both sides of the Atlantic.”
  • The Oscar Halecki Prize of 2021 by the Polish American Historical Association (PAHA) awarded her book The Ghost of Shakespeare: collected essays.
  • The Susanne Lotarski Distinguished Achievement Award by The Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America (PIASA, 2021)
  • Szczecin University Medal awarded by Senate of Szczecin University, Poland, January 2020
  • Jubilee Medal of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, September 2020
  • Wybitny Polak (Distinguished Pole in the United States), 2017, in recognition of Frajlich’s many contributions to Polish culture. The award and diploma were presented at the Polish Consulate in New York City, on May 10, 2017.
  • Union of Polish Writers in Exile (London) Literature Prize, 2015. The citation states that her “literary roots lie deep in Polish, Jewish and American culture, but it is in the Polish language that she finds a safe haven and belonging…. Her work has a deep humanitarian dimension.”
  • Title of Honorary Ambassador to the City of Szczecin, 2008
  • W. & N. Turzanski Foundation (Toronto) Literary Prize, 2003. The committee acclaimed her work as one “of the most interesting phenomena in contemporary Polish poetry,” revealing “deep truth about the existence of an individual entangled in the tragic fate of contemporary civilization.”
  • Knight’s Cross of Order of Merit, awarded by the President of the Polish Republic, 2002
  • Union of Polish Writers in Exile (London) a distinction for a young poet, 1984
  • Kościelski Foundation (Geneva) Literary Award, 1981
